December 18, 1951 POWs


On December 18, 1951, the North Koreans and Chinese released the first list of POWs. The lists were released as part of the cease fire negotiations.

After it was released, President Truman warned that this list was entirely unverified and should be treated with skepticism.

CMBN – Chemical Mortar Battalion
KMAG – Korea Military Group
SIGACL – Signal Air Ground Liaison
AF – Air Force
D – Division
MAW – Marine Air Wing
TF – Task Force
BG – Bomb Group
ENBN – Engine Battalion
MD – Marine Division
TKBN – Tank Battalion
BW – Bomb Wing
FABN – Field Artillery Battalion
RCT – Regimental Combat Team

CAMPS
Here are the locations of the camps as provided:
Camp 1 – Changsong, 30 miles northeast of Sinuiju, major border city near the mouth of the Yalu river
Camp 2 – Pyokdong, 50 miles northeast of Sinuiju on the south bank of the Yalu (this is also spelled Pyoktong on some maps)
Camp 3 – Changson, a second camp near POW Camp 1
Camp 4 – Pyokdong
Camp 5 – Pyokdong
Camp 6 – Pyongyang, the North Korean capital
Camp 7 – Pyokdong
Camp 8 – Changdong, 18 miles east of Pyongyang
Camp 9 – Pyongyang
Camp 10 – Chonma, 25 miles east of Sinuiju
Camp 11 – Pukchin 80 miles north of Pyongyang and 35 miles South of the Yalu river
